Project summary

Since 2013, UNSW Engineering has been working alongside YTU to provide support in various knowledge exchange engagements as well as the opportunity for students to collaborate on real-world projects.

Student in Myanmar

Over the years, there have been numerous exchange trips for staff and students to engage in. In 2018, four students visited YTU to help local students and academics develop appropriate teaching tools and tutorials, as well as develop in-house and locally-sourced demonstration systems to illustrate the principles behind water and wastewater treatment.

The latest trip took place in January 2019, when eight UNSW Engineering students travelled to Myanmar to work with 11 YTU engineering students on a project to install a laboratory-scale industrial wastewater treatment process control system on campus.

Project outcomes

UNSW has provided multifaceted support through its partnership with Yangon Technological University (YTU) that includes:

  • donating equipment and sharing teaching materials
  • delivering seminars
  • training senior academics and engineers
  • hosting YTU academics and PhD students at UNSW

YTU has offered opportunities for UNSW students to immerse themselves in a different culture while getting real-world project experience.
