The Maker Games course code ENGG3060 has been migrated to - Maker Games: Activation Hub - Biomechanics of Physical Rehabilitation for 2021 (formerly BIOM9551) as an elective for Engineering & Biomedical students who are eligible for both ENGG3060 & BIOM9551.
The 2021 UNSW Handbook has NOT been updated to reflect this.

About Maker Games: Activation Hub

Maker Games: Activation Hub - Biomechanics of Physical Rehabilitation (ENGG3060) is an exciting course which makes a real impact on the lives of others. Students co-design and prototype an assistive technology with a real client with a disability to improve their lifestyle.

ENGG3060 is available to all third and fourth-year engineering students as an elective and for third, fourth and fifth-year and PG Biomedical Engineering Students it will count towards your program as an equivalent of BIOM9551. See how it fits into your program or contact The Nucleus.

The course has been designed to provide students with a theoretical and practical understanding of the application of biomechanics in physical rehabilitation (no prior knowledge is required).

Maker Games: Activation Hub FAQ

ENGG3060; Maker Games: Activation Hub - Biomechanics of Physical Rehabilitation, will count as an elective course for all eligible engineering students in their third and forth year, not just biomedical engineering students.

How ENGG3060 fits into your program:

  • A non-computing elective for Master of IT
  • A discipline elective for Aerospace, Bioinformatics, Chemical Product Eng, Computer Eng, Mech & Manf Eng, Mech Eng, Mechatronic Eng, Software eng programs
  • A practice elective for Chemical Eng
  • A breadth elective for Electrical Eng and Telecommunications Eng

This course, like The Maker Games, is spread across Term 2 & Term 3, 2021 (3UoC + 3UoC = 6UoC, partial credits will not be given.) and involves the co-design and build of a working prototype of a rehabilitation project for a client with an accessibility requirement.

ENGG3060 has been designed to provide students with a theoretical and practical understanding of the application of biomechanics in physical rehabilitation (no prior knowledge is required).

ENGG3060 is available to third, fourth and fifth-year students in the BE/MBiomedE programs and students in the MBiomedE program and will count towards your program as an equivalent of BIOM9551.

All elements and learning outcomes of BIOM9551 course will be included in ENGG3060 except the course is spread across Term 2 & Term 3, 2021 (3UoC + 3UoC = 6UoC in total, partial credits will not be given), which enables students time to build a robust relationship with their client and to co-design and build a working prototype of their rehabilitation project.

The course content for BIOM9551 - Biomechanics of Physical Rehabilitation has been migrated into the course code ENGG3060 for 2021, now called: Maker Games: Activation Hub - Biomechanics of Physical Rehabilitation and will not be run exactly as the Maker Games has in the past.

Like The Maker Games, this is a project-based course involves design and prototyping, except you work closely with a real client with a disability to create an assistive technology improve their lifestyle.

ENGG3060 has been designed to provide students with a theoretical and practical understanding of the application of biomechanics in physical rehabilitation (no prior knowledge is required).

This course, like The Maker Games, is spread across Term 2 & Term 3, 2021 (3UoC + 3UoC = 6UoC). Partial credits will not be given.

The course content and learning outcomes for BIOM9551 – Activation Hub: Biomechanics of Physical Rehabilitation has been migrated into course code ENGG3060 for 2021. 

All elements of BIOM9551 course will be included in ENGG3060 except the course is spread across Term 2 & Term 3, 2021 (3UoC + 3UoC = 6UoC) per term enabling student time to build a robust relationship with their client and to design and build a working prototype of their rehabilitation project.

ENGG3060 will count towards an equivalent of BIOM9551 for eligible UG and PG Biomedical Students. You can no longer enrol in BIOM9551 for 2021 you must enrol in ENGG3060.

The projects for 2021 are yet to be announced and will be released for those who enrol in the course.
