IoT United (Wait-list only)

Current project

The 2021 IoT United VIP team is now full.

You can join the Wait-list in case a position on the team becomes available

VIP Snapshot

The scale and diversity of the IoT and all the different smart systems on offer presents a myriad of challenges in management and integration. This project is your chance to draw the strings together and create a centralised smart services integrator to improve the performance of the overall system.

IoT United

VIP ChallENG research goals

We’ll take a holistic view of the smart ecosystem and work towards creating a centralised smart services integrator to manage all the diverse services. The research challenges that must be addressed as part of this project include:

Algorithmic contributions

This theme will explore efficient algorithms to manage the following tasks using futuristic technologies such as federated learning, micro-services modular architecture and AI-driven decision making:

  • Access policies and rules management
  • Anomaly detection and response
  • Device configuration profiling and management
  • Privacy-preserving data sharing with other integrators
  • Vulnerability analysis and response

Hardware based implementation

In this theme, the algorithms and system design for the smart services integrator will be implemented and benchmarked on real-world commodity hardware to leverage the low cost, high performance and trustworthiness offered by such hardware implementation.

Research, design or technical ChallENG

  • Automatic profiling of IoT devices
  • Intelligent policy and configuration management for heterogeneous IoT devices
  • Anomaly detection and response based on AI and machine learning
  • Vulnerability identification and automatic response
  • Data visualisation and representation
  • Privacy-preserving data sharing e.g., privacy-preserving federated learning framework
  • Data privacy/private information leakage
  • Design of hardware-based services integrator
  • Design optimisation of the necessary hardware
  • Benchmarking the performance of various algorithms
