ChallENG research goals


  • To understand how bacteria work together to break down groundwater pollution
  • To understand how groundwater characteristics impact the way bacteria degrade groundwater pollution
  • To design and optimize methods for the synthesis of nano-sized iron-loaded granular activated carbon and test its ability to degrade groundwater contaminants
  • To develop online data acquisition tools in LabView to monitor groundwater parameters such as pH, salinity, dissolved oxygen and electron transfer potential


Research, design or technical ChallENG

  • This project will attempt to immobilize pollution degrading bacteria and/or nano-sized iron onto surfaces such as granular activated carbon (GAC) and/or surface modified activated carbon (SMAC)
