UNSW Engineering students travel to Uganda each year with the Engineering World Health Summer Institute Program to make an immediate impact in communities that need it most by repairing much needed medical equipment in the local hospitals.

Since 2018, 62 UNSW engineering students have travelled to Uganda, repairing over 1,232 pieces of medical equipment!
On the most recent visit to Uganda in 2020, UNSW Engineering students visited over 13 hospitals and repaired over 389 pieces of equipment, valued at USD $1,018,000.
High impact repairs included:
- fixing a very old oxygen concentrator which was the only one in the hospital's male ward
- installing an oxygen cylinder in a neonatal ward when there was a power outage in the town
- restoring the only infant scale in the maternity ward which allows for the proper doses of medication to be provided to the infants
- repairing the hospital’s only operation theatre light.
